"Chief, I'm telling you something is off with Kent!"
"Easy, big guy. I believe you." Blair ran a hand through his long, curly hair. "The thing is... I like Lane and Kent. They've got a reputation for honesty and fairness, especially when dealing with the police. You heard what Inspector Henderson said about them."
Ellison ground his teeth, blue eyes narrowing. "And how many criminals have we arrested had clean reputations?"
"Point," the grad student conceded. "So, which sense was it? Sight? Smell?"
The detective frowned in concentration, trying to remember which of his enhanced senses discovered a problem with Kent. "Hearing and smell. His heart was beating too quickly and his scent was... off."
"Off?" Soothing, calming tones slid into Blair's voice. "Can you tell me how, Jim? What was wrong with it?"
"He didn't smell... human, Blair."
Sandburg gaped for a long moment. "Wha- What? How is that possible?" stuttered Blair.
Jim snorted and growled out, "I'm a Sentinel, Chief, not a mind-reader!"
As the younger man collapsed into laughter, he commented, "I thought that was my line, Jim!"
