Although I enjoy the games, I have to admit that there are things about the series that bug me. One of them is the cannon age of the player character: ten years old. This doesn't make sense, that a fifth grader is going on a massive journey all over the region(s) and no one bats an eye. Does. Not. Compute.

So, under the cut is my attempt to reconcile the protagonists' official ages with both the world shown and general human behavior.

Dear Santa...

Dear Santa,

This year I've been busy!

Last Tuesday I ruled Asscrackistan as a kind and benevolent dictator (700 points). Last month [livejournal.com profile] stormqueen873 and I robbed a bank (-50 points). Last Monday I helped [livejournal.com profile] impfics across the street (6 points). Last week I gave [livejournal.com profile] sanjuno a life-saving blood transfusion (50 points). Last Saturday I set [livejournal.com profile] raisedbymoogles's puppy on fire (-66 points).

Overall, I've been nice (640 points). For Christmas I deserve a Sony Playstation 3 an all-in-one computer!

Sincerely,
rosieknight

I have to get through one more day of the most annoying, dirt-slinging campaign season of the season.

November 3rd can't come fast enough.

We visited the site of the Battle of An.. Sharpsburg today. Between it and Gettysburg, Sharpsburg is obviously the less visited site. We took another audio driving tour... and ran into heavy, sporadic rain three times. The first two were all right, since we hadn't left the car. The third time - Burnsides Bridge - we were out taking pictures and looking around. We got drenched. Mom had the worst soaking, as she was furthest from the car when the rain hit because she was standing on the bridge.

After that, we spontaneously decided to go to Harper's Ferry. While the site has a lot of history attached, I was not impressed. The Visitor Center was located far from town and all of the three surrounding historical sites, so the only way to visit them was via bus. A bus they wouldn't allow our dog on. No thank you. Instead, we drove through the town and past the site of the famous armory there.

Tomorrow, we're leaving at 5 am or so to try and reach home by 9 pm.

Wish me luck!

We went into DC again today. We visited the World War II memorial and the National History Museum. Then, I met up with [livejournal.com profile] raisedbymoogles and the two of us hit the Natural History Museum and the Air and Space Museum.

More later when I have the time.

We're heading into DC proper today. We made reservations for a tour of the Capitol building, so that should be interesting.

I'll edit this with more information when I get the chance.

Edit: We toured the Capitol Building, the Library of Congress, and the Supreme Court today.

The Capitol Building Tour started from the Visitor Center, moved into the Rotunda, headed to the National Statuary Gallery (the old Senate Chamber), visited the Crypt directly below the Rotunda, and finished by returning to the Visitor Center. Access to the House and Senate chambers could be obtained by visiting your Congress members' offices. We skipped that.

Instead, we took the tunnel to the Library of Congress - the Jefferson Building. It's... wow. Just wow. I have over a hundred pictures of just the walls, ceilings, and floors in there. And since we didn't do an official tour, there are places I didn't get a chance to photograph. I saw my new motto there, too. "I cannot live without books." - Thomas Jefferson.

After that, we crossed the street and headed to the Supreme Court. The relative simple elegance was a shock when compared to the opulence of the Library of Congress. The Court was primarily white marble, though the Courtroom itself is wood doors and red curtains.

Since we planned to meet someone for dinner, we headed out after touring the Supreme Court. It was a very interesting and fruitful day.

Yesterday, we went to Gettysburg. It's been ten years since we were there last and the Museum has really changed. The old Museum - across from the cementery where Lincoln gave the Gettysburg Address - is gone, and the new one is about 4x its size.

Not much has really changed on the battlefield - the roads have been repaved recently, but the audio driving tour has been expanded to include some individual stories as well as the overall movement of the battle during all three days.

I've got a lot of pictures from Gettysburg that I now have to identify where I took them. Thankfully, that can wait until I get home.

We've made it to the friends we're staying with while in the DC area. Today's traffic was killer. Two accidents and a nasty storm made for three severe delays in reaching this place.

And by severe delays, I mean we were over an hour past our initial estimated time of arrival. Thankfully, our host kept dinner waiting for us.

Unfortunately, the younger of their two dogs is not getting along with ours. (She's my default LJ icon.) That dog keeps trying to bite ours, despite being younger, smaller, and the same gender as our dog. If this keeps up, it looks like our dog is going to have to spend two days of this trip in doggy-daycare, as we can't bring her into DC proper via the train. I really wish that they'd thought to call the younger dog's actual owner and have her hold onto her, but I can't change the past.

I will have the story from the idea I mentioned yesterday posted shortly. I'm not on my own computer, so it'll be largely unbetaed.

We went from Central Florida to northern South Carolina in about 6 hours, not counting a stop for dinner. Pretty good considering that we had to wait for me to get off of work before leaving.

Quick fic idea: Optimus leaves a video for Rodimus to try and give Rodimus pointers. It would include such tips as "don't compare yourself to me" and "don't annoy the medics - they're scary." Would be set post TF:TM '80s.

Edit: We had dinner in Pooler, GA, at a Mexican restaurant called Cancun. After that, we got desert at a desert shop my younger brother has been wanting to visit since he first heard the name: Monkey Love Deserts. It's a combination desert and coffee shop. Good deserts, funny name.

We're currently at a hotel in Santee, SC. Normally, I wouldn't mention this. However, this hotel is across the street from a gentlemen's club named Spinners. I wish I was making this up. I'll try to get photo. At least it wasn't noisy last night?
