If you're out shopping and one of the workers asks you to do something somewhat stupid - like hang the clothes you want to try on a bar for a few seconds, please don't get mad at them. It's unlikely to be their idea, and management might be enforcing that policy.

(Not to mention, it's very hard to be nice to someone who's just chewed you out over that. Yes, I can count. I have to ask you to follow procedure anyway.)

Why would someone get upset over something that silly? (And what's the policy for, anyway? I've never encountered that before a dressing room.)

(And I've got friends who tell me horror stories about people who get nasty over how they bag their groceries after the fact. It's like, if you've got special needs on how you want your groceries bagged, do it yourself, or tell the person way before they put all your bags in your cart. Don't make them take the bags out and redo everything while you supervise and nitpick, that's just rude.)

*shrugs* If I knew, I'd understand these people better. (It's supposed to discourage shoplifting, I think. I just know that we're not allowed to count the clothing in the customers' hands anymore. A couple of my co-workers got chewed out by management for not using the bar.)

(*nods* I agree. I could tell you horror stories about customers who don't get that I can't leave the fitting room un-attended or gaggles of teen-aged girls who come in with the per-person clothing limit and decide not to buy anything.)

Sometimes I think it's better on your sanity if you don't understand them. (Yeah, I guess I can see that, though isn't that why clothes have those little plastic tags attached to them? I dunno, I've never really considered ways around those things.)

(*sheepish* I guess I'd be one of your horror stories, then. I tend to take a lot of stuff into dressing rooms and then only buy one article of clothing, because I'm so picky about how things look on me. But I always take the things out and I try to put them back where they belong, which usually gets me weird looks from the sales clerks. *shrugs*)

*nods* Probably. (*shrugs* I've learned more than I want to about the subject, so I can try to prevent shoplifting. Yes, that's what the sensors are for. Not everything can be sensor-ed, however.)

(*snorts* One person with a lot of stuff, I don't mind. It's when half the dressing room gets taken over for 3 straight hours by a group of girls who - despite trying on nearly everything their group brought in - will leave with nothing and nothing is hung, that's what gets me mad.)
