This idea won't leave me alone, so I thought I'd write it out.
It's all un-beta'd, so feel free to pick it apart.

Some people he'd known so long, he couldn't remember when he'd met them. Meeting Dion, for example, was long lost to the mists of time. It had been forgotton long before he'd become Optimus Prime, in place of Orion Pax, though their friendship had been as solid and constant as the All Spark.
But her...
He'd never forgotten meeting her.
Ariel. Elita-One. Ari. Whatever name or form she wore, he'd know her spark anywhere.
They'd met when they were younglings; when he was Orion Pax, she was Ariel, and Megatron was Myrmidons Pax - his brother.
It had been on an eduational trip his academy had gone on, a trip to the Councilhouse of the High Council. He and Myrmidons had been anticipating seeing Alpha Trion - their creator - in the Councilhouse's halls, and maybe even catching a glimpse of Sentinel Prime.
During the lecture about the construntion of the rotunda, his attention had wandered to group of young femmes.
Looking back on it, he suspected that the resonance between Ariel's and his own spark - a weaker, immature version of their sparkbond - had caught his attention.
At the time, however, he'd only known that something was wrong; that someone needed or wanted his help. So, he'd gone over to the group, to ask if everyone was alright. That was when he heard one of the femmes taunting the rose colored one in the center of the group. "You'll never be good enough, Ariel. You're just an orphan that nobody wants. Not like us. You're lucky we're even willing to share the same atmosphere as you."
To her credit, Ariel hadn't burst into tears at the insult nor had she taken a swing at her tormentors. Her posture and hands suggested that a physical confrontation wasn't long off, however.
Not wanting to see her in trouble because of her tormentors, he'd contacted Myrmidons through their private channel and the two of them set off to rectify the situation.
With the directness and deceptiveness that would characterize the adult as Megatron, Myrmidons entered the fray, "Hey, Ari! I was looking all over for you! Did you forget about meeting up with my brother already? I told 'Rion that you wouldn't forget about him!"
Seizing the oppening provided, Ariel had told her tormentors "I'd love to continue talking to you, but I've got plans with 'Rion. Sorry!"
He had ushered them through the nearest door, into the maze-like hallways of the Councilhouse.
A few turns later, the furture Lord High Protector had grinningly commented upon just how lost the three of them were and started trying to find an adult willing to lead them back to the tour.
He'd realized instantly that Myrmidons had purposely left the two of them alone, so he could explain. "I'm Orion Pax and that's my brother, Myrmidons Pax. I'm sorry for my brother dragging you off like this, but you looked like you could've used some help."
"I didn't need either of you to rescue me."
His shoulders had slumped. "I knew that. I thought that you'd like some back up, but Myrmidons had his own ideas on how to help."
She'd put a hand on his arm. "It was still nice of you to help. I'm Ariel." She'd flashed him a brilliant grin, "But you can call me Ari."
He'd felt a smile of his own crossing his features. "Then, you can call me 'Rion."
Myrmidons had chosen that moment to return with Alpha Trion, of all mechs, in tow. His Creator has escorted the three of them back to the tour path and the two academy groups had gone their seperate ways.
He'd thought that'd be the last time he'd see Ari.
He'd been wrong. Very, very wrong.
The proof of that currently rested upon their recharge berth.
He smiled slightly as he joined his sparkmate in recharge. "Good night, Ari."
End-ish
There may be more to this, I'm not sure.
